Barbie Party

Last Sunday (February 24th) we attended our 2nd annual Barbie Party!  Last year we went with Tami and Sami but they were unable to go with us this year, so we invited friends Sydney and Addisyn.  I was excited to spend the day with my Chloe girl as we left Layla home with daddy.  It was my first time away from her since being born!  All went well, I got to have a fun girls day with my big girl and Layla stayed happy for the few hours we were gone.  This years Barbie Party was at a different location than last year and it seemed a bit less organized.  BUT, the girls didn't seem to notice and had a super fun time anyways!  They met the "barbies," then danced, got their hair dyed, had flowers painted on their hands, made a craft, ate cookies, took pictures and went on a limo ride.

  Check out the pink hair!

 Silly blue mouthed girls!!

Playful Pets

We LOVE Kiwi Crate!!  This month's theme was playful pets and it was our favorite crate so far!  Check out the awesomeness Chloe created...

First we made the playful pets whom she named "Creation" and "Doby." Then we filled out her Certificate of Adoption for the pets. After that she made a swing, a slide and a house for them. She played and played and after a bit thought her pets needed haircuts. We now have tiny pieces of purple and green yarn all over, but it doesn't really matter because she is having so much fun!

Here are my two SWEETHEARTS in their Valentine's outfits.  I LOVE these girls more than words.  I ask Chloe to HUG ME and KISS ME more than she probably ever wants to but I can't get enough of her and her sister!  It makes my heart melt the way the girls SWEET TALK to each other as if no one else is in the room.  Layla watches Chloe's every move as if she is her TRUE LOVE.  I put a note in the girls Valentine's mailboxes asking my SWEET PEA and LOVE BUG to BE MINE. They said YES:)  HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!

1 Month

Miss Layla is 1 month old!  Where did the month go?!  Oh that's right we spent the month nursing, pumping, changing diapers, sleeping and then all of it over again.  I wouldn't change it for the world!  Layla has a bit of reflux and because of it is SUPER noisy when she sleeps, especially at night.  She just grunts and kicks.  Daddy says she "bucks and snorts." HAHA.  She slept on my chest for the first 2 weeks and after that we moved her into her own room to her crib.  I had mixed feelings about it because I knew the sooner I moved her into her own room and crib the sooner she would be a better sleeper and we would be getting better sleep!  BUT...on the other hand it's such a bonding experience having her so close.  I did this with Chloe to help my milk supply and it was great at first but then turned into a long time of not being able to sleep without mommy.  So I'm happy to report she is doing GREAT in her own room in her crib!  YAY Layla!  We are trying to work on a schedule but it's so hard when she refuses the binkie and just uses me to soothe herself.  I am basically nursing every other hour at this point it seems, except at night.  I am just enjoying the time home with her and know it will be over before I even know it. Happy 1 MONTH beautiful baby girl!

This month went WAY too fast. I can't believe Layla is already 1 month old! Here is what we were up to in January...

1.  Chloe learned the letters L, M & N at preschool.

2. I had my staples removed from my c-section.

3. Layla had her newborn pictures taken with our wonderful photographer, Angie.

4.  Chloe had a snow day from school!

5.  Chloe attended dance class every Tuesday night.

6.  Layla had her first follow up weight check and weighed 7lbs 10oz.

7.  Chloe started swim lessons at the base.

8.  Layla had her second follow up weight check and still didn't make it to her birth weight. 8lbs 1oz.

9.  Natalie, Layla and I had a girls day to see Addie and new baby Elle!

10.  Layla had her third and final weight check and weighed 9lbs 6oz!

Can't get enough of this girl or these adorable newborn jeans on her!

First week home was full of firsts...first bath, first time in the swing, first bottle and the first of many sister cuddles.  My first week was a little less fun - I got mastitis:( SO the pumping began as I did with Chloe.  Pumping, nursing and pumping and nursing some more.  Then the weight check came and she didn't gain enough, then another weight check and still not back to her birth weight. Finally on the third weight check she gained past her birth weight up to 9lbs 6oz - yay!  I think we finally got this whole nursing and pumping all worked out and as many times as I wanted to give up on nursing I stuck it out!  My best friend, Natalie was a big support as she kept rooting me on and it kept me going. I figured if she could do it with triplets I could do it with one!  Layla is taking 1 formula bottle right before bed and then 1 in the middle of the night while I pump. I tried nursing at night but she just sleeps on me so it wasn't working for us. I am her soother - she will not take a binkie at all, just wants me.  It is fine and great with me for now but I wonder how she will do when I go back to work:(  Already not looking forward to that day when I have to leave my precious new baby and her big sister!

Meet Miss Elle

On Friday January 25th Layla and I went to meet Addie's new baby girl, Elle!  Miss Elle was born just 9 days after Layla!  On our way to the Carstensen house we picked up Natalie to tag along with us as well which was so fun hanging out with two of my bestest friends.  Layla and Elle slept through their whole first playdate together.  Maybe next time they will be awake and actually meet eachother!  Such a fun afternoon outting with my girls!!

Swimming Lessons

Nana and Poppy signed Chloe up for swimming lessons in January at the base.  She has lessons every Saturday thru mid March and looks forward to going every week!  Daddy and I went to watch her at the first lesson and she made us proud!  Chloe is such a water baby - you can't hardly keep her head above the water!  At this lesson she told us she learned how to use her ice cream scoops to swim her arms.

Happy lil' Flower Girl

Yesterday, February 16th, my cousin Nicole got married!  Chloe was thrilled as she was asked to be one of the flower girls along with her 2nd cousin Brooke.  The girls were adorable and loved every minute as they walked down the isle throwing purple rose petals.  The wedding and reception was held here in Davenport at the Methodist Church.  A little tidbit that I found out after the wedding was that Nicole's parents were also married at the same church.  I thought that was neat.  It was a small gathering with mostly just close family and a few friends which seemed perfect for them. Nicole was a beautiful bride and I'm very happy for her and Bobby.
